Máthxwi Family Literacy Night Highlights Partnership and Learning

Recently, the District’s Curriculum Department partnered with Melissa Epp, Máthxwi Education Co-ordinator, and the Indigenous Education Department to host a Máthxwi Family Literacy Night. The evening brought together Máthxwi families and staff from both the Abbotsford and Langley School Districts in a shared commitment to student learning.

The event created space for connection and storytelling. Attendees shared a meal and heard from a panel of Máthxwi students, recent graduates, and family members, who reflected on their experiences with literacy and learning.

Families participated in hands-on literacy games, explored resources to support learning at home, and celebrated together through community-building activities. Door prizes were shared, and Máthxwi community members each received books to take home.

The evening highlighted the importance of partnership and the District’s ongoing commitment to supporting literacy through meaningful engagement with the Máthxwi community.
