The presenter teaches the basic skills for playing the traditional game Slahal. Slahal is a guessing game that dates back many, many generations and is played in Nations across North America. Slahal was played for fun, sometimes it was played to settle an argument, and sometimes it was played to prevent a conflict between two Nations.

Classroom Preparation:

  • CD player may be required
  • Desks moved to the side of the classroom
  • Prearrange class into 2 groups

Time Frame:

Elementary Schools: 60 minutes
Middle Schools: one scheduled block time
